What is on the page
Four figures walk towards the reader through deep snow, each carrying a lantern with a star cut into its panels. Behind them a stone footbridge crosses a frozen stream, and more villagers cross it with lanterns of their own. Gabled cottages with snow-capped roofs and arched windows line both sides, fir trees stand between them, and a street lamp glows at the right. The sky above the rooftops is filled with outlined stars. The whole scene is drawn in the round, soft shapes of heavy winter clothing.
Colouring it
A mix of open areas and finer detail.
Snow means most of the page stays white, so the small warm areas do all the work — lantern light, window panes, the street lamp. Colour those in yellows and oranges and everything else can stay cool and pale. The four coats in the foreground are the obvious place for stronger colour, and the outlined stars look best either all filled or all left alone.
