What is on the page
Two puppies are mid-play in a flowery meadow. One bounds forward with its ears flying and a bone-shaped tag swinging from its collar; the other sits back on its haunches, tongue out, watching the striped ball roll between them. Behind them the ground rises into a soft hill line with round shrubs, and three simple clouds sit in an otherwise empty sky. The foreground is the busiest part of the drawing — daisies at several sizes, tufts of grass, and small buds scattered between them.
Colouring it
Large, open shapes — good for younger hands.
Almost every shape here is closed and generously sized, so it forgives a wobbly hand. The two puppies can take the same coat colour or different ones, and the meadow flowers are the natural place to use every pencil in the tin. The empty sky is the one large flat area: leave it white and the drawing stays light, fill it and the puppies pop forward.
