What is on the page
A castle of eight or nine turrets rises out of a bank of clouds, pennants streaming from every spire and arched windows set into the towers. A wide rainbow runs from the castle's front gate down to the bottom corner of the page, and the whole structure floats on billowing cloud shapes that fill the lower half. Birds are drawn as simple curved strokes in the gaps of sky. The castle's stonework is left mostly plain, so the detail sits in the silhouette rather than in texture.
Colouring it
Large, open shapes — good for younger hands.
The rainbow decides the page. Its bands are the only part with an obvious right answer, and whatever order you choose sets the mood for everything above it. Clouds are large and open — a pale wash keeps them soft, or leave them white and let the rainbow carry the colour. The windows and pennants are small enough to want a fine tip.
