What is on the page
A big, soft-featured dragon lies down at the edge of a lily pond and holds out a single flower to a rabbit sitting upright in front of it. The dragon's body fills the right side of the page — scalloped back plates, a folded wing, a long tail curling round into the foreground, and a belly drawn in horizontal bands. Toadstools and rocks sit in the bottom left, lily pads and a water lily float on the pond, and broad trees close in overhead.
Colouring it
Large, open shapes — good for younger hands.
The dragon is one large surface broken into plates, belly bands and wing panels, which means you can shade it convincingly with a single colour and varying pressure. The rabbit and the flower are small and central, so a contrasting colour there pulls the eye to the moment the drawing is about. Toadstools are the excuse for red.
